Job Description

This unique individual contributor position will enjoy having both a connection to the organization. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to fill a void in the organization in helping to roll out culture and policy communications. The ideal candidate is: 

  • An excellent writer and communicator who is committed to simple, clear and creative ways of communication
  • Committed to measurement, results, process improvement and follow through
  • Interested in technical matters and has the ability to translate complex concepts into simple and clear ideas
  • Courageous and strategic and in addition to being willing to raise what might be perceived as an unpopular viewpoint, continually asks “is there a better way to do this?”
  • Comfortable and effective at working with people of all levels, from field-based personnel to supervisors, superintendents and executives
  • Effective at building collaborative relationships with key stakeholders
  • Self-directed and can take a broader vision, minimal instruction and run to execution, with regular checkpoints in between
  • A great project manager


Minimum 5 years or more experience in corporate communications or equivalent.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Ability to exercise good judgment at all times

Experience managing communications through multiple delivery channels (Web, print, video, in-person meetings, etc.

Experience acting as a communications consultant and advisor

Able to present complex data and technical information in a simple and easy to understand manner

Able to build working relationships across the organization

Ability to lead change within a complex and dynamic environment

Plays a key role in developing and implementing the Technical and Business Communication, training and outreach plan

Finds ways to share data, processes and information by using a variety of channels and voices

Measures effectiveness of communication and training efforts

Develops a clear understanding of field-based audiences, i.e., the type of information they need to do their jobs more efficiently and safer, and the best ways to reach field-based employees

Serves as a voice in relaying and disseminating key messages from senior leadership to field-based audiences

Serves as a voice and advocate for field-based employees, bringing forward perspectives and information from a variety of locations and job classifications

Ensures that Corporate Affairs departments and other functions within the organization are coordinated and involved as needed

Provides input into operational planning and decision making from a communications and change management perspective
