Job Description

Our client, a company that provides finance/accounting and HR management for various ranching and equestrian businesses is looking to hire a HR Manager. The Human Resources Manager will work with the 23 exempt and non-exempt employees across the two company locations. Moderate travel is required between the home office and the 2 ranches as well as to horse shows twice a month.

 

Specific job responsibilities:

  • Using Intuit Payroll, process payroll, prepare payroll tax returns and annual W-2s for employees
    • Collect timecards, per diem and other expense reimbursements and monitor overtime payments
    • For 2018, implement an accrual system for PTO and create quarterly employee statements
    • Recommend benefits changes before renewals; focus in 2018 is a comprehensive review of health insurance options
    • Review and approve invoices for various benefit programs and workers' comp insurance
    • Prepare annual employee survey and employer contribution to 401k
    • Fill out annual workers' compensation audit or other insurer-required paperwork
    • Fund quarterly HSA contributions
  • Manage insurance and employee benefits programs, including annual review and cost analysis for health, vision, dental, 401k, and workers’ compensation
  • Propose annual bonuses and compensation ranges
  • Conduct salary range comparisons for employees and analysis on compensation models
  • Create and maintain Employee Handbook and update periodically, as needed. Key items include benefit summaries, time keeping/recording and policies on breaks, paid time off and leaves of absence, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Translate or hire translator and oversee translation of key documents (e.g. offer letters, employee handbook/policies, key employee communications, etc.) to Spanish
  • Work with ranch, barn, and property managers to maintain thorough, up-to-date OSHA documentation and policies, including the Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPP) plan and safety signage
  • Work with employees and managers on any work related injuries including the initial care visit, filing workers compensation claims, and ongoing communication with workers comp insurance provider and employee
  • Help arrange trainings for staff as needed, including safety reviews, annual HR reviews, anti-sexual harassment training, and management training
  • Assist owners with annual performance reviews, compensation packages and professional development for staff
  • Onboard new employees
    • Collect documentation, payroll forms, etc.
    • Arrange for background checks and confidentiality agreements for all staff
    • Assist employees in enrolling in health, dental and vision plans and 401k
    • Review Employee Handbook with staff
    • Offboard terminated employees, including any necessary paperwork and final pay
    • Serve as primary point of contact for questions from employees, managers and owner on all HR concerns

  • Extensive HR management experience, ideally in a small to mid-sized business

  • Prior knowledge of ranching/agriculture or equestrian operations a big plus – interest in these areas is essential
  • Willing to dig into details and learn specifics of agriculture employee laws
