Job Description

The Head of People is a newly-created position that will support our client's next phase of growth. In partnership with the founders, you will play a key role in setting the overall people strategy and people operations roadmap to support organizational innovation in a thriving culture, while also acting as a Talent Advisor to our client's portfolio companies. Reporting into (XX), you will  build out our talent  infrastructure and operate as an innovative thought leader.  This role will support a growing team of 30-50 employees in the Los Angeles area along with an expanding list of portfolio organizations.


Strategy & Organizational Framework - Partner closely with leaders to codify the people strategy/roadmap, developing and/or making improvements to HR systems/programs to sustain long term organizational growth.  Provide guidance around the people aspects of the business strategy, scenario planning, and how to move the strategic vision of the business into people processes and workflow.

Talent Acquisition​ – Establish a scalable recruiting process for hiring and retaining top talent, focusing on our brand internally and externally, ensuring a positive candidate experience. 

Culture & Employee Engagement - Lead and manage the employee experience throughout the employee lifecycle in alignment with the cultural values of the business. 

Develop & evolve the Employee Experience​ ​that supports a performance-driven employee life cycle. ​Think deeply and execute expertly in the areas of:

  • Employee Integration – Educate new hires and teams on our vision and growth.  Provide programs that establish understanding of core values and drive engagement from day 1.
  • Talent Development & Planning – Operating as a​ Talent Development Leader​, coach our client’s people around skill development, leadership knowledge and team collaboration in support of the ever changing organization needs.
  • Team Dynamics and Performance - Build next-generation talent management systems to identify, anticipate, and build an action plan around organizational strengths and gaps. Create a coaching and mentorship practice to enhance performance.
  • Total Rewards – Identify and maintain a compensation and benefits strategy that attracts, motivates and retains top talent.

Inclusion & Diversity - Approach all internal/external programming with an I&D lens, driving programs that support the organization's workforce diversity, inclusiveness, and retention opportunities. Translate trends, metrics, and research into a strategy that sets our client as an I&D leader in the VC and real estate space.

People & Team​ Performance Scorecard -  Putting science and metrics behind teamwork, establish key analytics and HR reporting to support effective decision making and to monitor organizational performance.

Talent Advisor to portfolio companies -  Provide the same services outlined above to our portfolio companies. Operate as the HR subject matter expert, point person and thought leader providing coaching, resources and other programming as these organizations scale and develop their own people programs. Problem solve and offer solutions to roadblocks along the way.

Candidate Profile:

We believe someone with the following capabilities, knowledge and experience will thrive in this role, and as part of our team:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in HR/People leadership, ideally with some experience in a venture-backed, high-growth organization. 
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to set strategy and develop easily executable programs that contribute to organizational growth and an enhanced employee experience in the areas of talent acquisition, talent management, talent development, employee engagement/culture, total rewards, performance management and diversity and inclusion
  • Strong coaching skills, and ability to influence, engage, and partner closely with executives and business leaders across all levels of the organization in planning, change management and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills.
  • Collaborative work style - team player with low-ego and growth mindset.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage through ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • MBA or MS in Organizational Development/Effectiveness/Psychology
